The Bates Method
The Bates Method is a program founded by Dr. William H. Bates in the 1920’s when he believed visual strain and mental stress are the main causes of poor vision, combined with prescribing glasses to patients who wished to “see better” which often resulted in them needing stronger prescriptions a year later. “Why,” he asked, “if glasses are correct, must they continually be strengthened because the eyes, under their influence, have weakened? Logically, if a medicine is good, the dose should be weakened as the patient grows stronger.”
This logic is just as significant today as it was 100 years ago, especially with the advent of computers and small screened hand-held devices where your eyes often strain to see the small print.
My vision was poor when I hit my 30’s and then I began Better Vision lessons and improved my eyes then and again after several eye surgeries. I have helped others with their vision and have a really powerful training program and I would love to help you. Our vision is connected to our mind, emotions and habits and by clearing these habits, you are going to love the results! The Art of Seeing by Aldous Huxley. Aldous Huxley benefited enormously from the Bates method and wrote this excellent book out of gratitude to his teachers. In a clear and concise writing style, he explains the theory behind the ‘art of seeing’ and offers many techniques to promote healthy vision. Natural Vision Improvement by Janet Goodrich, Ph.D. A holistic approach to vision improvement expanding on the Bates Method and including brain integration, movement, relaxation, visualization, creativity, nutrition, emotional release and activities. The Cure of Imperfect Sight by William H. Bates, M.D. The classic work on vision improvement by the pioneer ophthalmologist who practiced in the early 1900s. Bates noted unexplainable improvement in some patients’ vision and developed techniques which have helped thousands to improve their eyesight. Eye Yoga; How You See Is How You Think by Dr. Jane Rigney Battenberg and Martha Rigney. This is a fascinating and practical book combining the more traditional approach to holistic vision improvement with techniques from Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP), yoga and psychology. In addition, by requiring one to do the work with a partner, it will help reduce the aloneness so many students feel who live far from a teacher and have to explore and heal their vision on their own.

Movement for Self-Healing by Meir Schneider PhD, L.M.T. Born blind, Meir Schneider was convinced that his condition was not permanent. As a teenager he began work with two teachers who gave him exercises to reverse the blindness. Over time, he became able to see, and he continued developing techniques for self-healing. Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma by Peter Levine with Ann Frederick. Living is stressful. In the natural flow of life we recover from stress by resting and relaxing. When the stress is too much and we are unable to recover, it is called trauma. It stays in the body and can accumulate bringing stiffness in the muscles and habitual pathways in the brain. This excellent book explains the mechanisms of stress and trauma in addition to describing how we can heal.
